The Broadway company of Aladdin will welcome some new faces who already know their way around Agrabah.
Ainsley Melham and Michael James Scott, who took on the roles of Aladdin and the Genie, respectively, in the Australian mounting of the Disney musical, will reprise their performances at the New Amsterdam Theatre.
Melham will begin performances February 19, taking over for Telly Leung. Also joining that day will be Mike Longo, who steps in for Steel Burkhardt as Kassim after appearing in the musical's national tour. Scott, who currently plays the Genie in the tour and appeared in the original Broadway cast, will play a limited engagement February 15 through September 15. During that time, Major Attaway, Broadway's current Genie, will take his performance on the road.
The musical, directed by Casey Nicholaw, celebrates its five-year anniversary on Broadway this year after opening March 20, 2014. The current cast also includes Arielle Jacobs as Jasmine, Jonathan Freeman as Jafar, Brian Conzales as Babkak, Brad Weinstock as Omar, JC Montgomery as Sultan, and Don Darryl Rivera as Iago.
