Audible, which recently named the Minetta Lane Theatre its new creative home for live performance in New York, has unveiled its upcoming slate of productions in the Greenwich Village theatre. The programming features works by Patti Smith, Isaac Gomez, Chisa Hutchinson, and Aasif Mandvi, who was recently seen in New York City Center’s revival of Brigadoon.

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductee and National Book Award-winning singer-songwriter Smith will perform Patti Smith: Words and Music at The Minetta Lane September 22–24. The evenings will feature original spoken-word stories from Smith's life, interwoven with music from her catalog played by Smith, son and daughter Jackson and Jesse Paris Smith, and Tony Shanahan.

In October, actor, writer, and former correspondent for The Daily Show Mandvi will remount his Obie Award-winning Sakina’s Restaurant, a solo play about an Indian immigrant who comes to New York to work at a restaurant and live the American dream. The play, written and performed by Mandvi, debuted in New York 20 years ago. The return engagement will be directed by Kimberly Senior, and will run for four weeks beginning October 5.

“I’m thrilled to be reviving Sakina’s Restaurant in collaboration with the amazing team at Audible,” said Mandvi in a statement. “Despite 20 having passed since I first performed it at the American Place Theatre, the themes I was grappling with then, those of an immigrant family, struggling with the joys, heartbreaks and sacrifice of what it means to leave one’s home and create a new American life, seem as relevant today as they ever did.”

Rounding out 2018, Audible will present the world premiere of Proof of Love by playwright Hutchinson, whose work was commissioned through Audible’s $5 million Emerging Playwrights fund. Casting, a full creative team, and exact dates will be announced shortly.

In early 2019, the Minetta Lane will welcome another monologue play with the New York premiere of Isaac Gomez’s the way she spoke. The solo play, which debuted to critical acclaim in Chicago, shines a light on the missing and murdered women of Ciudad Juarez, Mexico. Drawing on numerous interviews, the piece demonstrates the power and implications of speaking truth. Casting, a full creative team, and exact dates will be announced later.

All of these performances will be recorded as Audible Original productions. Audible members receive exclusive access to discounted tickets and related audio content. For more information and to purchase tickets, click here.
