Tony, Emmy, and Grammy Award-winning Color Purple star Cynthia Erivo is among the five actors nominated for the British Academy of Film’s 2019 Rising Star Awards.

In 2018, Erivo appeared in Drew Goddard’s thriller Bad Times at the El Royale opposite Jeff Bridges, Chris Hemsworth, and Jon Hamm, in addition to Steve McQueen’s Widows, starring Viola Davis, Michelle Rodriguez, and Elizabeth Debicki. Her upcoming films include Chaos Walking with Daisy Ridley and David Oyelowo, and Needle in a Timestack, starring Orlando Bloom, Freida Pinto, and Hamilton Tony winner Leslie Odom, Jr.

“I'm ever grateful to BAFTA and the jury panel for nominating me for the 2019 EE Rising Star Award,” Erivo said in a statement. “It means the world to me to be acknowledged by the community that, for most of my life, I’ve known as home. Thank you for this incredible honour.”

Also nominated for BAFTA’s Rising Star Award: Jessie Buckley (West End revival of A Little Night Music), Baary Keohgan, Lakeith Stanfield, and Letitia Wright (The Convert at the Young Vic).

The BAFTA Awards will take place February 10.
