The Playwrights Realm celebrates the official opening of Don Nguyen’s play Hello, From the Children of Planet Earth March 7. The new play about the oddities of human conception and the wonder of space travel is currently playing at The Duke on 42nd Street Off-Broadway, directed by Jade King Carroll.
Split between the perspectives of lesbian couple Betsy (Kaaron Briscoe) and Shoshana (Dana Berger), who are trying to conceive, and their potential sperm donor/aerospace engineer friend William (Jeffrey Omura), Hello, From the Children of Planet Earth explores what happens when we face the vastness of our future and when dreams give way to realism.
The cast is completed by Jon Hoche and Olivia Oguma. Performances began February 24 and are scheduled through March 24.
Nguyen was part of The Playwrights Realm’s Writing Fellowship in the 2012–13 season. The Off-Broadway theatre company was behind the recent acclaimed world premieres of Sarah DeLappe’s The Wolves and Michael Yates Crowley’s The Rape of the Sabine Women, By Grace B. Matthias.
The creative team for Hello, From the Children of Planet Earth is made up of Kimie Nishikawa (set designer), Nicole Pearce (lighting designer), Elisheba Ittoop (sound designer), and Ari Fulton (costume designer). Kara Kaufman is production stage manager, and Lily Perlmutter is assistant stage manager.
