The actor shares what it was like to help bring to life the story of the iconic song and dance duo.

Evan Handler, best known for his work on stage in Six Degrees of Separation and I Hate Hamlet, and on HBO's Sex and the City, portrays legendary director and producer Hal Prince in the new limited FX series Fosse/Verdon, which premiered April 9. Set mostly in the world of 1970s Broadway and Hollywood, the series finds Prince's career intersecting with that of fellow director Bob Fosse and his wife, the dancer-actor Gwen Verdon. Watch the video above and learn which of the Fosse's work influenced him as an actor and what he hopes this show brings to audiences.

"Trying to see in his early dance work what he would later become, it's actually hard for, me anyway, to see the smiling song and dance guy to then see the depth and cutting eye of Cabaret and All That Jazz," Handler says.

Starring Sam Rockwell as Bob Fosse and Michelle Williams as Gwen Verdon, the series is an inside look at the Broadway duo who collaborated on such musicals as Sweet Charity, Damn Yankees, and Chicago. The cast also includes Ethan Slater as Joel Grey, Ahmad Simmons as Ben Vereen, Kelli Barrett as Liza Minnelli, Bianca Marroquín as Chita Rivera, Norbert Leo Butz as Paddy Chayefsky, Laura Osnes as Shirley MacLaine, and more.
