Kate Benson’s [PORTO], an out-of-the-box comedy about life, dating, and desire, has been extended an additional week at WP Theater. [PORTO] unfolds inside a bar in gentrifying Brooklyn, and follows the adventures—both real and imagined—of a woman named Porto.
Originally scheduled to play through February 25, the Off-Broadway production will now close March 4.
Obie Award winner Lee Sunday Evans (Bull in a China Shop, Caught) directs a cast made up of Julia Sirna-Frest as Porto, Noel Joseph Allain (Luft Gangster, Queerspawn), playwright Benson, Ugo Chukwu (Ripcord, JOB), Jorge Cordova (Moment of Zen, Hillary), and Leah Karpel (The Harvest, Pocatello).
[PORTO] is a co-production between WP, The Bushwick Starr, and New Georges, and returned Off-Broadway in January following an acclaimed run in Bushwick last year. The show opened to positive reviews February 6.
The production features set design by Kristen Robinson, costumes by Obie Award winner Ásta Bennie Hostetter, lighting by Amith Chandrashaker, and sound design by Kate Marvin (Somebody's Daughter, Happy Days). WP Lab alum Rachel Karpf (Stuffed, Queens) and John Del Gaudio (the food was terrible, Comfort Dogs: Live from the Pink House) are the line producers.
