May 4 marks the birthday and screen and stage legend Audrey Hepburn. To celebrate, we're taking a look back at her Tony-winning turn in Jean Giraudoux's Ondine on Broadway.
Based on the novel Undine by Friedrich de la Motte Fouqué, Giraudoux's 1938 play follows a medieval love story between a knight and a water nymph. The play was adapted by Maurice Valency in 1959 for the Broadway premiere, which starred Hepburn alongside Mel G. Ferrer. Hepburn took home a Tony Award for her performance, the same year she won the Academy Award for Roman Holiday.
