Beginning January 22, Film Forum will present a series that highlights films starring, written, and/or directed by the great Elaine May.

The series begins with Enter Laughing on January 22 with two screenings. Directed by Carl Reiner (and based on his autobiographical play of the same name), the film has never been released on DVD or BluRay. The Heartbreak Kid, directed by May, will also be screened that same evening.

On January 29, Film Forum will offer screenings of A New Leaf and Mikey and Nicky; an encore screening of The Heartbreak Kid takes place January 31. The Birdcage and Heaven Can Wait (both written by May) hit the screen February 5, and the series ends February 12 with a screening of Ishtar.

Currently starring as Gladys in the Broadway revival of Kenneth Lonergan’s The Waverly Gallery, May made her Broadway debut in 1960 with An Evening With Mike Nichols and Elaine May. Not too long after, she appeared in 1966’s The Office before her screen career took off. She returned to Broadway in 2000 for Taller Than a Dwarf, 2005 for After the Night and the Music, and 2011 for Relatively Speaking. May won a Drama Desk Award in 1969 for Most Promising Playwright for her work on Adaptation.
