PaleyFest LA 2018 will launch March 16 with a special Icon Tribute to legendary performer Barbra Streisand.
Hosted by the Paley Center for Media, the 35th annual celebration of the world of television will take place March 16–25 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, and will open with Streisand conducting a talk about her career, illustrated by clips “highlighting her groundbreaking work in television including her acclaimed Emmy Award-winning specials” including My Name Is Barbra, Color Me Barbra, and Barbra Streisand: Timeless.
PaleyFest LA 2018 will showcase stars from “Emmy Award-winning comedies and dramas, intriguing sci-fi mysteries, and the acclaimed revival of one of television’s most beloved shows,” said Maureen J. Reidy, the Paley Center’s President & CEO, in a press statement. “We’re especially proud to honor Barbra Streisand as this year’s PaleyFest Icon, and look forward to celebrating her numerous television accomplishments.”
One of the few show business personalities to have received Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony Awards, Streisand began her career in New York City cabarets, and made two early-career appearances on Broadway in I Can Get It for You Wholesale and Funny Girl; reprising her role in the film adaptation of the latter won her an Academy Award. One of the best-selling singers in history, she has released 35 studio albums, including The Broadway Album, Back to Broadway, and 2016’s Encore: Movie Partners Sing Broadway, and has won 10 Grammys, among dozens of other honors. She recently concluded a concert tour, Barbra: The Music ... The Mem'ries ... The Magic!
