The actor says she misses the stage now that her Shondaland series is coming to a close.

Kerry Washington told Live talk shows hosts Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest that she is looking to return to the New York stage. Having wrapped filming on the final season of ABC’ Scandal, which the actor led as D.C. fixer Olivia Pope for five seasons, she says, “I've been missing theatre.”

“I was doing a play on Broadway when I read the script for Scandal,” says Washington in the video above.

And Washington, having made her Broadway debut in 2009’s Race, says the schedule of theatre doesn’t scare her. “After you do a show where you're doing 16-hour days and memorizing a new monologue every day, you're like, ‘Yeah I want to say the same words for a few months.’

“Our show is so cool with the live-tweeting, but I miss being in the room,” she continues. “There's something very communal about theatre and being able to tell the same story.”

No official plans have been announced for Washington’s potential return to the stage.
