Auditions for the anticipated movie remake will also be held in Orlando in May.

Auditions for the principal roles in Steven Spielberg's film remake of West Side Story will be held in New York City and Orlando in April and May, according to an open casting call issued by casting director Cindy Tolan. As previously reported, the anticipated movie remake is on the lookout for the roles of Maria, Tony, Bernardo, Anita, and Riff.

The casting call specifies actors between 15 and 25 years of age with a strong dance background and ability to sing. Performers are instructed to prepare 16 bars of a classic musical theatre song.

The West Side Story remake will feature a script by Pulitzer Prize-winning Angels in America playwright Tony Kushner, with whom Spielberg collaborated with on the Academy Award-winning Lincoln.

The original West Side Story film won ten Academy Awards, including Best Picture. The movie is directed by Robert Wise and Jerome Robbins, and features music by Leonard Bernstein, lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, and a screenplay by Ernest Lehman based on the libretto by Arthur Laurents.
