As the Broadway community awaited the 2018 Tony Award nominations announcement May 1, the cast of The Band’s Visit’s morning was a bit different. The company stopped by The Today Show to offer a taste of their musical on the Rockefeller Center plaza, kicking off the NBC program’s “Best of Broadway” week—but not before learning of (some of) their nominations.

Hoda Kotb and Savannah Guthrie informed stars Tony Shalhoub and Katrina Lenk that they were both Tony-nominated as the final tally rolled in. "If someone had asked me what would be the most unlikely thing that happened in my career, this would be it—to be nominated in a musical," replied Shalhoub.

The cast then performed the the show’s introspective “Answer Me,” led by Adam Kantor. Take a look at the performance below.

The Bands Visit, currently playing at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre, garnered a total of 11 nods, including Best Musical, Best Score for David Yazbek, Best Book for Itamar Moses, and Best Direction of a Musical for David Cromer.
