Be More Chill, the new musical coming to Broadway’s Lyceum Theatre in February 2019, just dropped the official music video for the power ballad “Loser Geek Whatever” by composer-lyricist Joe Iconis.
Will Roland (Dear Evan Hansen) stars in the video, which shows him in the recording studio for the upcoming album. Roland plays lead Jeremy Heere, a high schooler who has always been at the bottom of the social food chain, but gets an offer to gain status and “be more chill” with the help of a supercomputer chip guiding his behavior in his brain.
The song shows the moment when Jeremy must decide if he’s going to follow the path to popularity.
Based on the science fiction novel by Ned Vizzini, Be More Chill has a book by Joe Tracz and a score by Iconis.
Stephen Brackett directs; the Off-Broadway company also included Gerard Canonico as Rich, Katlyn Carlson as Chloe, Stephanie Hsu as Christine, Tiffany Mann as Jenna, Lauren Marcus as Brooke, George Salazar as Michael, Britton Smith as Jake, Jason Tam as The Squip, and Jason SweetTooth Williams as Jeremy's Dad/Mr. Reyes.
The production featured choreography by Chase Brock, sets by Beowulf Boritt, costumes by Bobby Frederick Tilley II, lighting by Tyler Micoleau, sound design by Ryan Rumery, projection design by Alex Basco Koch, musical direction by Emily Marshall, and orchestrations by Charlie Rosen.
