Duties & Responsibilities
Assists Properties Manager in acquiring, fabricating, altering, setting up, storing and disposing of properties for all A.R.T. new productions, revivals, transfers, and tours. Maintains and improves the Loeb Drama Center shop, stage, greenroom prop area, and storage areas, as well as those of the warehouse. Supervises temporary employees and interns, conducts projects independently and attends technical rehearsals. Primarily responsible for shopping, soft-goods and prop stock; prop stock includes maintenance of warehouse stock and onsite storage as well as rentals from both areas. Performs related tasks and other duties as assigned by the Properties Manager for the smooth operation and maintenance of the Properties Department

  • Position Responsibilities

    Acquires, fabricates, alters, arranges, stores and disposes of props for A.R.T. productions
  • Plans projects and materials needed, orders and acquires materials for projects.
  • Liaises with designers, helping to translate vision into reality.
  • Upholsters furniture, sews curtains, cushions, and fabricates other props.
  • Researches techniques for fabrication
  • Aids in show expendable needs
  • Maintains and improves the shop, greenroom, storage areas, expendables in soft goods and paint areas.
  • Maintains and tunes soft goods tools and equipment
  • Periodically reorganizes prop stock at Loeb Drama Center and warehouse
  • Arranges rentals as needed
  • Maintains MSDS notebooks and prop stock binders
  • Assists in tracking and coding expenses
  • Participates in load-in, strike and inventory process and trouble shoots problems as they arise.
  • May act in place of manager taking notes at technical rehearsals
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Basic Qualifications
Candidates MUST meet the following basic qualifications in order to be considered for this role:

Bachelor's degree in technical theater or equivalent and three years' experience in a professional prop shop.

  • Additional Qualifications

    Proficiency in Photoshop, FileMaker, Word, Excel or similar software
  • Able to lift 50 pounds be physically able to stoop, lift, bend, and work with shop equipment and supplies.
  • Shopping, sewing and upholstery skills as well as knowledge of crafts and painting; portfolio must include upholstery as well as period styles knowledge.
