DESCRIPTION

Cherry Lane Theatre is seeking a Development Manager responsible for Institutional and Individual Giving. We require candidates to have a minimum of 1 to 3 years of experience working in a development office or to be a recent graduate of a master’s program in Arts Administration.
Requirements

Knowledge of principles of fundraising and excellent writing skills required. Interest in theater preferred. We seek a self-starter who is passionate about proving themselves with this rare opportunity for an early-career professional, growing with our company, and making this development department their own.

Salary $40-$45,000 or commensurate with experience.

Responsibilities

· Institutional Giving

o Manage grant calendar

o Execute grant applications and final reports for government, foundations, and corporate sources of giving

o Maintain relationships and correspondence with current and prospective institutional donors

o Assist with event and program mailings for both individual and institutional donors and prospects

o Process donations and donor acknowledgements and maintain donor databases for both institutional and individual sources

o Reconcile monthly income reports with internal and external databases

o Identify potential new sources of contributed income; help to strategize overall fundraising plan

o Work with direct supervisor to achieve yearly fundraising goals

o Track department progress against fundraising goals and give progress reports at Board meetings

o Assist with coordination and planning of special events; attend special events and represent the Cherry Lane Theatre in a courteous, helpful, and informed manner

o Provide administrative assistance as needed

o Support Board and staff in fundraising needs

· Individual Giving

o Create and implement individual giving strategies, including special events, to increase unrestricted and restricted income from current and prospective individual donors

o Develop and maintain personal relationships with a pool of existing and new donors

o Work effectively with the Board, artistic director, and all staff to identify, cultivate, ask, close and steward annual, major and planned gifts


About Cherry Lane:

Cherry Lane is New York's longest running Off-Broadway theater. In 1924, a group of theater artists, colleagues of Edna St. Vincent Millay, created Cherry Lane Playhouse. The Downtown Theater movement, The Living Theatre and Theatre of the Absurd all took root, and it proved fertile ground for 20th century dramaturgy’s seminal voices, including F. Scott Fitzgerald, O’Neill, Odets, Gertrude Stein, William Saroyan, Beckett, Albee, Pinter, Ionesco, LeRoi Jones, Sam Shepard, Lanford Wilson, Joe Orton and David Mamet. In 1996 Angelina Fiordellisi revived Cherry Lane, founded the Cherry Lane Alternative and created a number of programs to launch the next generation of American playwrights, chief among them our Obie Award-winning Mentor Project.
