A brand new play called Silent Movie Dreams will debut at The Hudson Guild SummerFest! This funny and emotional play has a feminist and LGBTQ focus and centers around the experience of a miscarriage, a topic which is often unexplored.

We are kicking off a fundraising campaign on June 20th that will include a staged reading and movement piece from the play. Actors must be available for 2 immediate rehearsals and the fundraiser event on June 20th.

Regular rehearsals run for 6 weeks, starting in mid-July with 3 performances in September.

The play will be directed by Lola Lopez Guardone, an award winning director who has worked in the festival before.

No pay but if we win best play, the prize money will be shared. There are also monetary prizes for best actor and best actress.

*Please submit for an audition appointment by email, with the role in the subject line. Attach your headshot and resume and note which audition date is preferred.*

A woman in her 20’s/30’s who needs people. Probably a Gemini. She is a bit all over the place, she settles for an open relationship that doesn’t work for her and winds up pregnant. She wants more than anything to find love but is too proud and stubborn to admit it.

An African American gay man in his 30’s who needs people. Definitely a Scorpio. He’s not one to shy away from anything, he tells it like it is even if it hurts. He is best friends with Natalie and wants desperately to help her but he realizes he has some growing up to do as well.

A bi-sexual woman in her 20’s/30’s who needs people. Libra maybe. She seems very outgoing, perhaps a bit inauthentic at first, but she has a deeper need she has covered up with drugs in the past and is now trying to help Natalie to soothe herself.

A fun-loving man who comes off as clueless but really needs people. A Sagittarius for sure. He has his beliefs about monogamy and doing the right thing but he can seem insincere and aloof. He spends time with ideas and doesn’t spend too much time in feeling.

A man in his 20’s/30’s, basic and trying not to be. Aries? Nothing is a problem for him, he throws a lot of parties, he is very understanding but maybe avoids problems or seeing the faults in others.

Silent Movie Actors (2)

Physically expressive actors/dancers, dressed in the silent film era who move well, acting out dreams with comedic affect as well as dramatic. No lines but a lot of movement and expression. Strong improvised dance background needed, think Bob Fosse or Twyla Tharpe.

Silent Movie Announcer / Club DJ / Server / Doctor

Gregarious person who excites the crowd and lends a little mystery. Think circus ring master or sideshow barker, might have or wear a handlebar mustache. Leo. Doubles as a club DJ announcing Flossy BayBay and a Server. Gives bad news to Andrew & Chelsea as a doctor.

Flossy BayBay / Therapist

A drag queen, they perform a song and give Natalie advice in the bathroom of the club. Performer doubles as Natalie’s therapist in the final scene.

Lamaze Instructor / Jessica / Duane Reade Cashier

A woman instructing pregnant couples on breathing techniques and healing crystals, interested in creating a safe environment and using new age techniques with Lamaze. Doubles as one of Ryan’s love interests at the first party. Provides voice over for a Duane Reade Cashier. Improv experience helpful.

Homeless Woman / Party goer

A middle aged homeless woman who wanders into Natalie’s dream – she represents Natalie’s worst fears and also maybe her alcoholic mother. Very few lines, some improvisation, strong character actor. Doubles as one of Ryan’s love interests at the party.
