DESCRIPTION

Civic Theatre of Allentown (www.civictheatre.com) is currently seeking a highly skilled individual to serve as its Technical Director/Facilities Manager for its 2019-2020 season. The Technical Director/Facilities Manager is a mid-level position that works directly in all performance and other production-related spaces of Civic Theatre of Allentown. The position works closely with the Artistic Director and Production Manager to determine technical needs of shows. The Technical Director will then be in charge of oversight, coordination, and implementation of those needs in the space, mostly during load- in and strike. An ideal candidate would exhibit technical knowledge, ability to lead both volunteers and paid crew, and collaboration skills. Civic Theatre offers this position a Full-Time exempt, competitive salary commensurate with previous experience with the potential option for a benefits package. Deadline to apply is June 7th. Qualifications:

·         Preferred educational degree of Associates or higher with a concentration in technical theatre and/or design

·         Strong written and verbal communication skills

·         Familiar with a broad range of technical areas including stage, set, sound, video, and lighting design and implementation; stage management, lighting systems, stage carpentry, sound reinforcement, and video systems

·         Familiar with current drafting versions of VectorWorks and/or AutoCad

·         Familiar with counterweight fly systems and their safe usage

·         Familiar with implementing and enforcing backstage safety precautions and procedures

·         Confident and skilled in establishing work priorities, coordinating multiple projects simultaneously, and implementing and meeting deadlines

·         Strong interpersonal skills

·         Ability to foster teamwork and cooperation

·         Ability to interact cordially with volunteers, staff, and board members

·         Must be a self-starter and highly motivated

·         Capacity to take initiative with projects and work independently as well as closely with a team

·         Able to effectively navigate high-stress situations 

Responsibilities:

·         Acts as Master Carpenter of the scene shop. Oversees upkeep of all shop and storage spaces.

·         Operates as Resident Scenic Designer for all productions, unless otherwise agreed upon at start of season

·         Attends all put-in and technical rehearsals

·         Is on call during production runs to address technical issues before and during each performance.

·         Operate, maintain, and safeguard the technical assets of the Civic Theatre of Allentown’s two theatres

·         Work with Production Manager to determine the necessary technical support for each production, including lighting, sound, video, staging, and any special needs for artists and companies

·         Assist guest designers and artists with technical matters

·         Supervise the implementations of approved technical designs

·         Supervise and assist when necessary with set and stage construction and management

·         Assist in recruiting, training, and assigning of overhire technical staff for productions

·         Orient facility renters and visiting productions to safety, technical characteristics, and other areas of theater and performance operations

·         Monitor the condition of all Civic equipment including lighting, sound, video, and rigging equipment

·         Assist Production Manager in the planning of any necessary repairs and replacement of equipment within budgetary constraints

·         Perform preventative maintenance on equipment as needed

·         Assist with the preparation and control of production budgets

·         Collaborate with Production Manager to maintain inventory and order supplies

·         Oversees upkeep of all facility equipment for both spaces

·         Oversees the hiring of outside contractors for facility projects outside the scope of in-house capability

·         When able, responsible for in-house projects to maintain the quality and level of Civic Theatre Facilities

·         Weekly walk-through of Civic’s two spaces to ensure that Civic facilities are functioning to highest capacity

·         Other duties as assigned by supervisor
