The University of North Carolina at Pembroke's Department of Music seeks applications for a one-year Visiting Lecturer of Musical Theatre/Interim Musical Theatre Program Director position for the 2019-2020 academic year. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses in Musical Theatre including song-performance classes and History of Musical Theatre as well as stage and/or music direct one production each semester. Additional responsibilities depend on the candidate's expertise and department needs but could include directing and/or accompanying the Vocal Jazz Ensemble. The candidate will also be expected to participate in appropriate department, university and professional service, serve as an academic advisor, and actively recruit prospective Musical Theatre students. Thorough knowledge of musical theatre history and repertoire, and understanding of current trends in musical theatre is required; industry connections are valued.


Qualifications: A completed master's degree in music or theatre (or evidence of a substantial professional performance career) is required. The ideal candidate would have evidence of successful college teaching experience and departmental service, along with demonstrated professional level artistry in the area(s) of acting, stage direction, and/or music direction. The ability to work effectively with people from a variety of backgrounds and cultures is essential. Excellent written and oral communication skills are also required.
